To Lake County Graduating High School Seniors:

We’re pleased to announce that NIPSCO will be offering its Carolyn B. Mosby scholarships for the 2013-2014 school year. This scholarship program recognizes the first African American employed by NIPSCO, Carolyn B. Mosby, who was hired in NIPSCO’s Gary Office. She opened the door of opportunity for NIPSCO to gain the benefits of a diverse workplace.

NIPSCO and the Urban League of Northwest Indiana are once again partnering to select scholarship award winners. The Urban League of Northwest Indiana played a key role in NIPSCO’s successful hiring of Ms. Mosby.

We are seeking the names of seniors who will be graduating from a high school in Lake County in June of this year who has an accumulative GPA of 3.5 or better. The students must have been accepted into a four-year college. Each student will be required to write an essay (not to exceed 500 words) that describes them, their life experiences, their aspirations and why the Carolyn B. Mosby Scholarship would assist them in achieving their goals. After reviewing the essays, we will select the students to be interviewed by our review committee.

Please provide the names, transcripts and essays to the Urban League of Northwest Indiana (3101 Broadway, Gary, IN 46409) by March 14, 2014.

We look forward to meeting with some of the finest young minds in the region!

Sincerely,

Eddie D. Melton, Manager
